Happy Birthday!

Happy second birthday James Henry! We are enjoying you more than ever! A few things that I always hope to remember about you at this precious age:

You call yourself, "Ames Enny", and are talking all the time-

you love to go to school to play in the sandbox-

all you want for your birthday is cake-

If we ask you how old you are you say, "three"-

you love your family, especially your brother and call him "E-yi", If he cries, you run to help him-

If I say, "James Henry, you need to obey", you nod your head enthusiastically and say, "Obey mommy and daddy!" Yesterday you put yourself in time out after making a bad choice-

you love to sing the oh john deere song, and prefer non-fiction books and movies about tractors, trucks and trains over cartoons-

all you want to eat is cheese, pancakes, and fruit-

you fold your hands and bow your head when it is time to say the blessing and finish with an enthusiastic, "A-Yen!"-

you run "laps" around the kitchen every evening after dinner and prefer bubbles in your bath-

when we sit in your big chair to cuddle and rock at night you lay your head on my shoulder, play with my ponytail, and ask me to talk about tractors-

We love you sweet boy!

yard work

Two years ago this weekend, I remember being very pregnant sitting on the front porch watching Clint rake leaves. Our sweet baby arrived on Monday. The time has passed so quickly and now Clint has a little helper. James Henry stands at the window and watches him work in the yard until the end when he is finally invited outside to "help". It is like a dream come true every time James Henry gets to ride the tractor with his daddy. I love the last image of him waving to me as if it is the greatest thing that has ever happened to him. He and his brother are certainly that to us.

time to paint

Sometimes I miss teaching art. I love it that James Henry will randomly look at me and say, "time to paint". A creative soul that has just had a stroke of genius (is how I like to see it). I am happy to dress him in one of his daddy's old T's and play art teacher for a morning. It is just enough to get my fix, and a good reminder of why I am so grateful to stay home with him. These are the moments.
